The Intimate Earthquake Archive, by Sissel Marie Tonn in Het Oog

Sissel Marie Tonn is de winnaar van de Theodora Niemeijer prijs 2016. Zij mag Het Oog een half jaar gebruiken als podium voor haar project The Intimate Earthquake Archive. Vanaf donderdag 10 november kun je de opbouw van haar project volgen in Het Oog. Op donderdagavond 15 december wordt de installatie officieel geopend. The Intimate Earthquake Archive is een interactieve installatie waarin bezoekers de gemeten aardbevingen kunnen ervaren die in Groningen plaatsvonden als gevolg van de gasboringen. Sissel Marie Tonn heeft een archief aangelegd van de niet-natuurlijke aardbevingen in Groningen die geregistreerd zijn door het KNMI. Om mensen niet te overweldigen met deze enorme hoeveelheid data, wil ze een beving juist invoelbaar maken voor iedereen. In de installatie onderzoekt Tonn de relatie tussen natuurlijke fenomenen en menselijke ervaringen. Ik heb meegewerkt het ontwikkelen van de electronica en de geluidscompositie.

City Sondols, by Matteo Marangoni

“City Sondols” is an ongoing series of public interventions exploring architecture and public space that employ performative practices and mobile audio devices to induce perceptual shifts within the built environment. Matteo Marangoni and Marije Baalman, equipped with self-made, mobile musical instruments lead their audience on a walk through the city while probing the surrounding space with sound. Using echolocation techniques and feedback processes aural impressions of sites are conveyed. Combining aesthetic contemplation, physical engagement and urban guerrilla tactics the walk proposes a form of active perception that temporarily modifies the surrounding environment.

With Novel Tools for Sonic Manifestations TodaysArt 2016 explores new technologies formats and trans-disciplinary collaborations and the increasingly novel ways in which they can be employed to push the boundaries of creating presenting and experiencing music and sound. Joined by HARING programmers Andrea Vogrig and Darien Brito audio-DH: sonic manifestations mastermind Francisco López opens the session with a keynote address that showcases the specially-developed software at the heart of his latest endeavour. The keynote is followed by presentations by Marije Baalman (formerly at STEIM) and festival artists Myriam Bleau Paul Jebanasam & Tarik Barri Alba G. Corral who discuss the instruments tools and technologies used in each of their performances.

'Becoming - an exploration of the interplay between composition, instrument design and performance'. During the development of the piece 'Wezen-Gewording' (Being-Becoming) the concepts of instrument composition and performance blurred for me as a maker and raised questions about the interplay between these elements. In this talk I will reflect on the development process and discuss how the traditional notions of instrument composition and performance seem to be contrasting with the modern practice of a sound artist such as myself.
